The cells of this green alga, Cladophora, are joined end to end to form a tree-like structure. Cladophora are common in freshwater streams and the Yellowstone River.

Branching filamentous green alga. Not encountered frequently at this site and only near the margins of the Lake where conditions may not be as harsh as in the main body of water. Phase contrast micrograph.
