Low's PaphiopedilumOrchidaceae (Orchid family)Native to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, and Sulawesi.Oahu, Hawaii, USA (Cultivated)IUCN: EndangeredThe only Paphiopedilum species which is mostly found as an epiphyte in nature.**NOTE**While I enjoy orchids, as an environmentally conscious orchid grower in Hawaii, I am proactive when it comes to removing and properly destroying any and all seed pods from the plants so as not to encourage their spreading into our fragile native Hawaiian forests.
These orchids are special. We have only found them about 5 times over 40 years. Such a pretty and tiny one. These were large as they were ~ 80mm tall. Usually they are smaller.Flower July to September
This orchid likes shady locations next to large rocks. The flowering plants do not have a rosette of leaves. Those not flowering grow close to each other covering large areas of ground with their rosettes of leaves. I didn't think to take a photo of the rosettes.
