Ættin Flavobacteriaceae samanstendur af umhverfis bakteríum.[3] Flestar tegundirnar eru loftháðar, meðan aðrar eru microaerobic til anaerobic, til dæmis Ornithobacterium, Capnocytophaga og Coenonia.[4]
