Compare with Lagerstroemia speciosa which can grow up to 25 metres tall, Lagerstroemia indica is a small-sized deciduous tree which can grow up to 3 to 7 metres tall. Lagerstroemia indica has elliptical leaves and pink to purplish red flowers made up of 6 wavy petals which are quite similar to the flowers of Lagerstroemia speciosa but much smaller in size. This photo was taken in the Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Garden here in Hong Kong.
