Maritime Squill (Urginea maritima) is the largest bulb in Israel. It blooms at the end of summer without leaves, when the soil is very dry. The flewors attreact many insects.

Drimia maritima is a common Mediterranean bulb. In Israel it penetrates the desert. I was happy to see the first flowers today on the edge of the Ramon Crater in southern Israel.
