Caudex horizontal or ascending, clothed with the imbricated leaf-bases ; leaf-blades leathery, oblong or sometimes slightly broadest above or below the middle, 3-9 cm. long, obtuse, serrate or crenate-serrate, deep-green or lustrous above, paler beneath, narrowed into winged petiole-like bases; flower-stalks 1-5 dm. tall, bearing 1 or 2 clasping leaves; cymes at first congested, becoming separated; peduncles 5-25 mm. long; sepals ovate, about as long as the hypanthium, each with a terminal gland and usually some lateral glands; petals narrowly spatulate or oblong-oblanceolate, 2-2.5 mm. long; fruit conicovoid, 8-10 mm. long.
Type locality : Kamtschatka.
Distribution : Islands and mainland from the Bering Sea region to Washington.
