Such interaction requires certain metabolic properties of fungi, including the production of secondary metabolites, which change qualitatively and quantitatively and can be activated during co-cultivation.Such fungal antagonism could be one of the instruments for obtaining novel bioactive compounds, which are produced by a collaboration of the two fungi (or by one of them, but in noticeably increased quantities by co-cultivation). English: The interaction of the wood-inhabiting fungus Xylaria polymorpha and pathogenic fungus Penicillium polonicum in dual culture.
