Diagnosis: strongly curved, crescent-shaped mouth; minute, sometimes almost imperceptible, barbel at either side of mouth; last unbranched dorsal fin ray heavily ossified and inflexible; pelvic fin inserts below middle of dorsal fin; 31 scales in lateral line (Ref. 81639).Description: body depth 24.5-33.3% SL; head length 21.6-28.6% SL; no papillae around mouth but usually with round keratinized tubercles on snout; D: IV,11; A: III,5; scale formula: 4.5-5.5/31/-; 2.5-3.5; 12; 3.5 scales from lateral line to anal fin origin (Ref. 81639). Coloration: alcohol-preserved specimens are uniformly dark brown (Ref. 81639).
