This species and its distinctive subspecies are all centered in the Mojave Desert of southeastern California, southern Nevada, and western Arizona, with some extending into the adjacent southern Great Basin, eastern Sierra Nevada, and southern California Transverse Ranges. In the White Mountains it is restricted to the lower and warmer desert slopes.
