Potamodromous. Migrating within streams, migratory in rivers, e.g. Saliminus, Moxostoma, Labeo. Migrations should be cyclical and predictable and cover more than 100 km.

Has filaments on its palette which play a gustatory role and also functions in mucus secretion which facilitates ingestion of food. Appears to undergo mass migration during reproduction (Ref. 12225). During reproduction, it is then easily captured with nets along the banks where the dense vegetation is flooded (Ref. 27188).
