Comptosia gemina. This species is unusual compared with any other Comptosia species for its wing markings, most Comptosia with patterened wings have the tips clear or white. The band on tergite 1 is also distinctive. Confined to SW WA as far inland as Coolgardie. Long flight season. Quote from Michael Jefferies

This small bee-flies hover while they feed but occasionally sit and have a rest. It is the only time their wings stop. Here it is hovering while feeding on nectar on a Stylidium rubricalyx flower. It is touching the flower very lightly and hasn't set off the trigger which can come over to pat pollen on the body of the fly. This helps in pollination.
