Maximum longevity: 30 years (captivity)
Observations: Although there are anecdotal reports suggesting that these animals live over 30 years, the record longevity in captivity belongs to one wild born specimen of the *lowei* subspecies that was about 30 years old when it died in captivity (Richard Weigl 2005).
