Maximum longevity: 21.1 years (captivity)
Observations: Males attain full size at 5-9 years of age and females at 4-6 years of age (Ronald Nowak 1999). In the wild, it is estimated that these animals live up to 25 years (Bernhard Grzimek 1990), which is doubtful. Record longevity in captivity is 21.1 years (Richard Weigl 2005).
