Description: English: This is a picture of a sclerotium of the fungus species Morchella snyderi. Morchella snyderi is a microorganism that grows in post-forest-fire soils. It contributes to the breakdown and sequestration of the large, aromatic forms of carbon contained in pyrolized (burned) organic matter (PyOM). Pyrolized soils represent a large proportion of global carbon, and post-fire fungi such as Morchella snyderi are important in global carbon cycling. This picture was taken after the specimen grew for 8 days in soil that was charred at 300 degrees Celsius.English: This is a picture of a sclerotium of the fungus species Morchella snyderi.
