Erebia callias is resident to Montana, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado, as three small separate populations, and also in Asia (Scott 1986). Habitats are alpine grassy areas. Host plants are unknown. Eggs reported as laid singly on dead blades near four different species of grasses and sedges. There is one flight each year, mostly July 15-Aug. 15. (Scott 1986).
