Reared from the cohort of caterpillars photographed, starting with
eggs, earlier in the summer. Eggs were laid on the local native host plant,
Aristolochia serpentaria, growing in my garden. I captured the cats as they looked mature and placed them in containers with sticks for pupation sites. I had lots of near-mature cats, but they ran out of food and I only got two chrysalises. More photos later--the chrysalises are wild. I caught this one only after it emerged and the wings were fully inflated. I was lucky with the other one--see another
