Description: Rat nest in instrument shelter of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) well. This rat nest is probably ship rats (Rattus rattus). Ship rats arrived in Puerto Rico in the 16th century with the Spanish. The location Is Piezometer D RASA, 17º59'10"N, 66º15'55"W and the elevation is 22 m. The nest is made of papers where the water levels in the well are recorded and are official U.S. Government documents. The average depth to water is 11 m, the water temperature is 28 ºC, and the electrical conductivity is 800 µS/cm.
