Description:
Perkinsus (purr-kins-us) is an apicomplexan cell. Most apicomplexa are internal parasites and the group[ includes the causative agent for malaria. Perkinsus is distinctive because it has a free-swimming flagellated stage. This is used to disperse and find new hosts (molluscs), which it attacks penetrating into the tissues. Cyst.
