Populus alba
Description:
2013-03-17 Vienna, district XXII., Lobau - Danube National ParkGerman name: Silber-PappelLower stem of this specimen. This is a rather 'pure' specimen of P. alba - those have become relatively rare (the hybrid with P. tremula is spreading everywhere), but in Lobau national park there are still plenty.Even though their bark is white it may be almost 'black' like that of Populus nigra - like is shown here. They grow more or less 'straight' upright (much straighter than P. nigra) but still not straight like a line but in smooth curves.
