Xanthidium cristatum BREB. in RALFS The cells are a little wider than long and octagonal in coarse shape. The central cut is deep and extends strongly outwards. The cell halves are oblong hexagonal with straight or weakly concave sides, the vertices are broadly truncated. At each lateral and apical angle a pair of long pricks originate. Above the center is a flat, often slightly brown colored swelling of the cell wall occupies with small warts. Dimension: Length without pricks 50 - 60 µm, width without pricks 58 - 63 µm.Occurrence: In littoral zones of mountain lakes in Central Europe, occurrence rather rarely.Copyright by Prof. Rupert Lenzenweger, Ried im Innkreis, Austria. Place name: n. a. Latitude: 0 Longitude: 0 Die Zellen sind nur wenig breiter als lang, im groben Umriss achteckig. Die Mitteleinschnitte sind tief, außen stark erweitert. Die Zellhälften sind länglich-sechseckig mit geraden oder schwach konkaven Seiten, Scheitel breit abgestutzt. An den Seitenwinkel und Apikalwinkel je ein Paar langer Stacheln, oberhalb der Mitte eine flache, mit kleinen Warzen besetzte oft leicht braun gefärbte Verdickung der Zellwand. Dimensionen: Länge (ohne Stacheln) 50 – 60 µm, Breite (ohne Stacheln) 58 – 63 µm.Vorkommen: In Uferzonen von Bergsee in Mitteleuropa, eher selten.
