Xanthidium armatum (BREB.). RABENH. ex RALFS The cells are 1.5 times longer than wide and rectangular in shape. The cell halves are octagonal with 6 pairs of furcated processi. In the center of the cell halves is a star shaped branched processus. The cell terminations are broadly truncated. The central cuts are deep and strongly broadened towards the periphery. Dimension: Length 100 – 140 µm, width 120 – 180 µm.Ecology: As acidophilic alga common in acidic sphagnum bogs.Occurrence: Ubiquitous.Copyright by Prof. Rupert Lenzenweger, Ried im Innkreis, Austria. Latitude: 0 Longitude: 0 Die Zellen sind etwa 1,5 mal so lang wie breit, im groben Umriss rechteckig, die Zellhälften sind 8-eckig mit 6 Paaren gegabelter Fortsätze In der Mitte der Zellhälften ein sternförmig verzweigter Fortsatz. Die Zellenden sind breit abgestutzt. Die Mitteleinschnitte sind tief, nach außen stark erweitert. Dimensionen: Länge 100 – 140 µm, Breite 120 – 180 µm.Ökologie: Als acidophile Alge in sauren Moorgewässern zwischen Torfmoosen verbreitet.Verbreitung: Weltweit.
