Description:

Description: Parentucellia latifolia, as an introduced plant in Australia. Introduced, cool season, annual, slender, erect herb 5–30 cm tall, covered by soft glandular and stiff non-glandular hairs. Leaves are sessile, opposite, ovate to broad-ovate, 3–15 mm long, 2–7 mm wide, margins toothed, upper leaves with 2 or rarely 3 pairs of teeth. Flowerheads are dense racemes with few to many subsessile flowers. Calyx is ribbed, 6–7 mm long, elongating to 8–10 mm long in fruit. Corolla is 8–10 mm long persistent in fruit, red-purple with the inner face of the lobes pink, rarely white throughout, with a slender tube and very short narrow upper and lower lips. Anthers 4, are yellow. A native of the Mediterranean, it grows in woodland, in disturbed or overgrazed moist sites. Date: 20 September 2014, 08:01. Source: Parentucellia latifolia leaf3.
