NannochloropsisMinusNitrogenNileRed

Description:
Description: English: Oil accumulation in Nannochloropsis cultures. Confocal microscopy image of Nannochloropsis gaditana cells grown in standard f/2 medium without the addition of a nitrogen source for 6 days. The sample was stained using nile red. In red chlorophyll autofluorescence, in yellow the signal of nile red bound to neutral lipids (oil). The picture was shot by Elisa Corteggiani Carpinelli and the method used is the same described in Corteggiani Carpinelli, E. et al., (2013) "Chromosome scale genome assembly and transcriptome profiling of Nannochloropsis gaditana in nitrogen depletion". Molecular Plant. doi: 10.1093/mp/sst120. Date: 4 November 2010.
