Festuca subulata (28359106866)

Image of bearded fescue

Description:

Description: The narrow lemma tips that taper imperceptibly into long awns (often well over the length of the lemma), open panicle, relatively broad stem leaf blades (e.g., over 3 mm wide), and ligule that is somewhat bilobled are distinctive traits of this understory fescue species. In spite of the broad leaf blades from the stem, they still abruptly contract from the leaf sheath and render the distinctive fescue "stairstep" ligule. Date: 17 July 2016, 14:07.
