Description:
Description: As the story goes, there was a beautiful princess named Naupaka, who had fallen in love with a man who was a commoner from the village below. In Ancient times, Hawaiian tradition strictly forbade those of royal blood to marry people from common decent. Princess Naupaka took the white flower in her hair and tore it in half. She placed one half in her lover's hand and told him to return to the ocean shore as she would live her life in the mountains yearning to one day be together. Today, the Naupaka Flowers bloom in halves. It Is said that when the flower from the mountain (Naupaka Kuahiwi) joins the seashore (Naupaka Kahakai), the Hawaiian lovers will be together once again.
