Coralroot (28940913025)
Description:
Description: Coralroot is in the orchid family, but is also mycroheterotrophic. This means that they do not have chlorophyll to produce energy from sunlight, but instead derive energy through a relationship with fungi in their root systems. Because they do not need sunlight, they are often found in the dim understory of Mount Rainier's forests. Photo taken June 6, 2016, in Longmire. NPS Photo. Date: 7 June 2016, 14:10. Source: Coralroot. Author: Mount Rainier National Park from Ashford, WA, United States.
