Flowerheads are diffuse, 2–20 cm long (often much longer than stems); flowers are solitary or clustered (2–4 per cluster) along branches. Tepals are straw-brown, with broad hyaline margins; outer tepals 4.0–8.0 mm long. Capsules are shorter than the tepals and straw-brown to dark red-brown. Flowering is in spring and early summer.
