Sicus ferrugineus-abdominalis (male) (14171086260)

Description:
Description: One of the so-called Thick-headed (Conopid) flies. David Clements (who organises the UK Conopid Recording Scheme) agreed that this is a male Sicus. In the past it was thought that the dimensions of the 2nd tergite allowed identification to species, but more recent works shows that males are not presently distinguishable. S. abdominalis is vanishingly rare in Britain, however, so we can be almost 100% that this is S. ferrugineus, which is our commonest British Conopid. Photographed resting on a Perennial Cornflower leaf in my garden. Date: 31 May 2014, 13:18. Source: Sicus ferrugineus/abdominalis (male). Author: Martin Cooper from Ipswich, UK.
