Description:
Description: This remote trail camera picture is of a wolverine (Gulo gulo) who has stolen our bait (a deer leg) from a hair snare tree. We are collecting wolverine DNA from hair samples in an effort to determine our wolverine population. The wolverine runs up the tree to get the bait and leaves its hair on wire brushes fastened to the tree. The hair is collected and sent to a lab. The project is nearing its end. Numbers will be tallied at a future date. The wolverine is the largest terrestrial member of the mustelidae (weasel) family. The wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times its size. (dr). Date: 23 February 2011, 12:21.
