Description: English: The Giant woolly flying squirrel (Eupetaurus cinereus, Thomas, 1888) is least known animal in the world, having the endangered status. The species was originally known from a few specimens collected in northern Pakistan and Sikkim. Before 1994 many authorities considered it to be extinct. In 1994, specimens were captured in the Sai Valley, Gorabad, and Balti Gali. These localities fall in northern areas of Pakistan. Live specimen captured was rediscovery of the animal in Northern areas of Pakistan (GB). In its current worldwide distribution record, animal is known only from a very small region in Diamer and southern Gilgit districts around Nanga Parbat, Pakistan. Dry temperate forests associated with cliffs and caves are its preferred habitat which is a unique biological region of Himalayan mountain ranges. Upper Neelum Valley (Shounthar Hanging valley) Azad Jammu and Kashmir Pakistan is the most remote and inaccessible area. This area lies within the Himalayan mountain ranges. A wildlife biologists research team of Qamar, Usman, Naeem Dar, Riaz Aziz and M. Anwar, 2012 discovered viable population of this species in this remote area.
