Description: English: Kaempferia galangal. Common names: Cekur (Malay). Kencur. Maraba, Finger root, Chinese ginger. 山奈 (shān nài) or 沙姜 (shā jiāng) (Chinese) Southeast Asian spice. Used in Thailand as vegetables or added to curry. Leaves and rhizome are eaten raw in ulam with sambal belacan. used in an Indonesian herbal concoction known as jamu to treat pains. A decoction or powder of the rhizomes is used traditionally as a post-natal tonic, and to treat indigestion, abdominal pains, colds, chest pains and headaches.
