Description:
Description: Ebony Bug (Corimelaena incognita), family Thyreocoridae. Feeding on planted Penstemon species, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. I collected seed stems from Penstemons and got the whole house of these bugs. They are very attracted to water and crowded around the bottle opening. The colored stripe is a characteristic feature of Corimelaena. I do not have a complete key for the species, but the image search shows the bright red stripe should belong to C. incognita.
