Schaefferia emucronata (8361981930)

Image of Ceratophysella

Description:

Description: This is a funny one- it seems to have 3 ocelli but only one actually on the surface in the adult. I was wondering whether the granulations increase as it grows, obscuring the ocelli.. So, it's granulated, spotted and has very pronounced anal spines. The adult's around 1mm-1.5mm so a bit of a chubby one. They were all under this massive rock I turned over when I was down in Devon this morning. Very cool little thing. It can't be Ceratophysella or Hypogastrura as it doesn't have 8+8 ocelli, I think I've understood it correctly, so I'm going to make a wild guess for a Schaefferia sp, as it also felt a little like the S. emucronata I photographed earlier last year- thin, hair-like setae, very similar low-slung anal spines, and Schaefferia sp. are usually 'whitish with scattered small spots'.. also, it might explain the variability of the ocelli..
