Description: English: Shadow-mode backscatter SEM of the under-surface of the coralline red alga Lithophyllum orbiculatum, removed from the rock after decalcification in 5% HCl. Fragments of the rock matrix remain attached to the underside. The hypothallus is visible towards the left; the perithallus toward the right.
