Hello old friend. . . (Papilio polyxenes, Papilionidae)

Description:

[taxonomy:binomial=Papilio polyxenes] [taxonomy:family=Papilionidae] Escazú, San José, Costa Rica. This male of the species Papilio polyxenes emerged from the pupa 6 hours before the video was taken. Populations of this species go locally extinct because of urbanization, and I had not seen the species in more than 20 years. When I was in school, I used to collect the caterpillars and take care of them until they became adults and released the butterflies. I moved to another area of the country a few years ago, and it´s still rural in some parts, and have recently been finding caterpillars in the playground when I bring my daughter.
