Baxter, a North American Suburban Beaver

Image of beavers, gophers, kangaroo rats, pocket mice, and relatives

Description:

Castor canadensis dragging a favorite food and building material back through the water enroute to its lodge: a recently obtained branch of Salix exigua (Coyote willow). Beavers enjoy willows of all kinds.Baxter does not appreciate camera flashes but was so busy this time that he did not flinch and seemed oblivious to my presence, unlike almost all of our other encounters. Beavers are very observant (and therefore difficult to photograph). They are also exceptionally hard workers.May 31, 2012, Big Cottonwood Creek in the suburbs of Salt Lake County, Utah. At almost 9:00pm it was quite dark, so use of the camera's flash was unavoidable.
