Red dragonfly - Diplacodes bipunctata

Image of Diplacodes Kirby 1889

Description:

This male dragonfly allowed me to get fairly close to it and while I was photographing, it darted down and returned with a fly in its mouth. It then proceeded to eat the fly and totally ignore me. I never expected that they could be so fast and manouver with such large wings in an area where there were reeds and other plants. There are 5 species of Diplacodes in Australia.Photos out of the archives. November 2007 was a wonderful year for insects.
