Cnidoscolus angustidens

Image of mala mujer

Description:

Finger Rock Trail, Santa Catalina Mountains. July 23, 2011This is the first official record of this plant in the Santa Catalina Mountains in over 100 years. I think it is more common than the record book indicates. It just grows in very remote and difficult to access locations in the middle of summer when it is brutally hot.Its nickname is Mala Mujer (Bad woman in Spanish). This is because it is covered with stinging hairs that give a wicked sting that lasts for hours.
