Diagnosed from congeners in western Europe by the following characters: absence of keel from nape to dorsal origin; snout projecting, pointed; upper jaw projecting; dorsal profile of head and body continuously rounded, usually lacking marked lump; lips thick, fleshy; eye diameter 19-21% HL; snout length 33-38% HL; and lateral line with 49-53 + 2-3 scales (Ref. 59043).

Biology ( anglais )

Inhabits streams and rivers, sectors with current and clear water, in deep pools. Feeds on vegetal matter. Spawns in stretches with swift current and pebble bottom. Reaches up to about 40 cm SL (Ref. 59043).
