Aporops bilinearis Schultz 1943

Adults' body light brown with scattered vertically elongate dark brown spots. Large pores in interorbital space absent (except in small juveniles). Preopercular spine projecting upward. Caudal vertebrae rarely up to 19. Lateral line scales: anterior 32-38; posterior 14-28 (usually 19-21) when fully developed. Longitudinal line series 53-59.Description: Characterized by having two lateral lines, first ends below soft portion of dorsal fin, second midlateral on posterior part of body; without enlarged pores in interorbital space; no pores around edge of eye; greatest depth of body 3.2-3.3 in SL (Ref. 90102).

A shallow-water species (Ref. 27020). Found among corals of wave-washed seaward reefs (Ref. 1602). Benthic species (Ref. 7300, 58302). Solitary and cryptic (Ref 90102).

分布於印度-太平洋區。台灣發現於蘭嶼海域。

罕見魚種。魚體小，無食用價值。

體延長，標準體長為體高之3.1-3.6倍。頭背部幾乎斜直；眶間區平坦。吻鈍圓。上頜骨末端延伸至眼後之下方；上下頜具齒。前鰓蓋具1尖棘。體被櫛鱗；縱列鱗數57-71；側線2條：一條沿背側延伸至於背鰭軟條部中部之下方，一條於背鰭軟條部中部下方沿體中部向延伸至尾鰭基部。背鰭連續，無缺刻，有硬棘VII枚，軟條23-24；臀鰭硬棘III枚，軟條19-21；腹鰭腹位，末端不及肛門開口；胸鰭短於後頭部，圓形，中央之鰭條長於上下方之鰭條；尾鰭圓形。體一致呈黃褐色，體側散佈小暗斑；鰓蓋上無眼斑。

棲息於沿岸礁區淺水域，尤其是有激浪沖擊之礁石緣，水深在1-15公尺間。生態習性尚不甚清楚。

The blotched podge (Aporops bilinearis) is a species of marine ray-finned fish, related to the groupers and classified within the subfamily Epinephelinae of the family Serranidae. It is found in shallow water in reefs and it is a solitary and rather cryptic species. It is found at depths between 1 and 35 metres (3.3 and 114.8 ft) from the eastern coast of Africa through the Indian Ocean east into the Pacific Ocean where its range extends as far as Johnston Atoll, Hawaii, the Line Islands and the Marquesas Islands, north to Japan and south to Australia. It is the only species in the genus Aporopos.
