Leontopodium monocephalum Edgew.

This species has also been reported from Baltistan and Shyok Valley by Stewart, l.c. We have not seen any specimen from these areas. The specimen cited here from Gittidas (Hazara) is also immature but its dense mat forming habit and dense yellow tomentum of the leaves leave no doubt about its identity. A rare species in our area, seems to be more common, further east.

Stoloniferous, dense mat forming herbs, 4-10 cm. Stolons slender with scattered recurved scales or non sheathing small leaves. Flowering stem very slender, hairy. Leaves oblong lanceolate to spathulate 3-9 x 2-3 mm, obtuse, usually covered with dense pale yellow tomentum (rarely somewhat greyish). Capitula terminal, 1-10, 4-6 mm across, on 0.5-5 cm long axis, subtended by pale yellow, radiating, woolly, oblanceolate-spathulate, 12-15 x 3-4 mm, inflorescence bracts. Phyllaries 2-3-seriate, ovate-lanceolate, 4-6.2 x 1-2 mm with blackish, lacerate, scarious margins. Corollas c. 3 mm long, 4-lobed. Cypselas pubescent, c. 1 mm long, pappus setae 15-18, c. 4 mm long, white, barbellate to slightly plumose.

单头火绒草（学名：Leontopodium monocephalum）为菊科火绒草属的植物。分布于尼泊尔、锡金以及中国大陆的西藏等地，生长于海拔4,000米至5,500米的地区，多生长在高山山谷冰川的砾石地及草地，目前尚未由人工引种栽培。
