Description: Caribachlamys ornata (Lamarck, 1819) - interior of a left valve of the ornate scallop, 1.55 cm across at its widest. Family Pectinidae (Triassic to Holocene) - the scallops are epifaunal filter-feeding bivalves. They are famous for their ability to escape predators by swimming via “clapping” their two shells together. Scallops occupy shallow- to deep-water, tropical to polar marine environments.
