Pluteus caloceps Atk. Ann. Myc. 7: 373. 1909
Pileus convex, umbonate, 2.5-4.5 cm. broad; surface smooth or appearing slightly granular in some places by the separation of the cells, or somewhat rimose toward the margin orpiment-orange to vermilion, orangevermilion at the center; context white; lamellae broadly eUiptic to sub ventricose, rounded behind, free, minutely floccose on the edges dull-fleshcolored; spores suboblong, 5-8 X 4-6 m; stipe fibrous-striate, pallid, 2.5-6 cm. long, 3-5 mm thick.
Type locality: Dead Lake, Michigan.
Habitat: On the ground.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
