Description: English: Native warm-season perennial sedge; loosely-tufted, mostly grows to 15 cm tall and spreads by long underground rhizomes. Leaves are narrow, grass-like and v-shaped in cross section. Flowerheads are small (7-30 mm long); with 3-6 solitary or clustered sessile spikes. Flowering is from spring to autumn. Found in pastures, lawns, woodlands, open forests, and beside streams. Prefers moist well-drained soils in full sun or partial shade and is tolerant of disturbance. Native biodiversity. Usually a very minor component of pastures, but because of its grass-like leaves it blends in with grasses even when it’s abundant, unless it is flowering. It supplies small quantities of usually moderate quality forage, but can be a good quality feed (65% digestibility) at times and is palatable to stock. Tolerant of heavy grazing.
