Bennett Mountain Fenceline

Imagem de Artemisia tridentata (Nutt.) W. A. Weber

Descrição:

Description: English: Fenceline on Bennett Mountain in Idaho with a recently chained field of sagebrush to the left, and intact native vegetation to the right. Cattle ranchers often mistakenly believe that sagebrush competes with forage grasses for water and nutrients so they kill them purposefully- either by overgrazing, cowboy lightning (purposefully starting wildfires), or taking a tractor dragging something heavy- like chains- in this case over the brush. All the ranchers accomplish is taking away the only shade the grasses and forbs have in the desert though. Date: 8 September 2004. Source: Own work. Author: Thayne Tuason.
