Common Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) flower buds prior to opening - in a field behind our house in Ontario County, NY on August 17. This aromatic mugwort is native to Eurasia, north Africa and Alaska. Elsewhere, it's a highly invasive alien weed. Numerous other species in the genus Artemisia are also called mugworts, but are also known as wormwoods.
