Small to medium-sized deciduous tree. Bark pale grey-brown fairly smooth to finely fissured, flaking; branches with pale lenticels, milky sap present. Leaves opposite, lanceolate up to 10 × 2.5 cm, light green, often drooping; margin entire. Flowers in branched heads, terminal, axillary or in the forks of branches; corolla creamy yellow, sweetly scented; calyx and stalks covered in rusty hairs. Fruit in pendulous paired very slender follicles, up to 32 × 1 cm, dark green with pale lenticels, dehiscent. Seeds with an apical tuft of long silk-like hairs

Wrightia natalensis: Brief Summary

Wrightia natalensis grows as a small to medium-sized deciduous tree. Its fragrant flowers feature a creamy yellow corolla. Fruit is dark green and carried in pods up to 32 centimetres (13 in) in length. Habitat is dry woodland and scrub forest from sea-level to 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) altitude. W. natalensis is native to Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Eswatini and South Africa.
