Potentilla intermittens Rydberg, sp. nov
Perennial, with a short cespitose caudex ; stems ascending, about 3 dm. high, sparingly hairy ; basal leaves 5-7-foliolate ; petioles 5-10 cm. long, sparingly silkystrigose ; leaflets cuneate-oblanceolate, most of them sharply cut-toothed with lanceolate teeth directed forward, usually entire at the cuneate base, sparingly silky above, grayish tomentose beneath and with appressed-silky veins ; stem-leaves 3-5-foliolate, shortpetioled ; stipules lanceolate, entire, about 1 cm. long ; inflorescence few-flowered ; hypanthium silky-villose, in fruit 6-7 mm. broad ; bractlets linear, 4 mm. long; sepals lanceolate, acuminate, 5-6 mm. long ; petals obcordate, 6-7 mm. long ; stamens about 20 ; pistils many ; styles filiform. (Perhaps a hybrid between P. glaucophylla and P. filipes.)
Type collected in Cameron Pass, Colorado, in 1896, C. F. Baker 25 (herb. N. Y. Bot. Gard.). Distribution : Mountains from Alberta to Colorado and Nevada.
