Cells contain numerous yellow-brown chloroplasts. Pentagonal, dorso-ventrally flattened cells, widest at the cingulum area. Similar to C. furca but smaller and more delicate. The triangular epitheca forms a long anterior horn. The hypotheca is subtrapezoid, extending into a long left and a short right antapical horn, which are straight, nearly in line with the cell or slightly diverging. The left one is two times longer than the right. The thecal plates are ornamented with more delicate ridges and pores. The nucleus is situated in the epicone or centrally.
