They are native to Pantanal, Tocantins, Puerto Rico, Cerrado, Alagoas, Mata Atlântica, Rio Grande Do Sul, U.S. Virgin Islands, Ceará, Amapá, Pampa, The Neotropics, Distrito Federal, Maranhao, Amazônia, RondôNia, Colombia, Rio Grande Do Norte, Piauí, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Espirito Santo, Ecuador, Paraná, Rio De Janeiro, GoiáS, Pernambuco, Mato Grosso, Costa Rica, Peru, Nicaragua, Caatinga, Acre (Brazil), Pará, Solomon Islands, SãO Paulo, Santa Catarina, Sergipe, Roraima, Mato Grosso Do Sul, and ParaíBa. They have simple, broad leaves and achenes. Flowers are visited by Megachile venusta, Seladonia, Rhingia trivittata, and Halictus. Individuals can grow to 2.3 m.
